"I don't use my drill everyday, it's just for home projects. After the original batteries started to lose their ability to hold a charge I needed to either buy a new drill ($$$) or replace the batteries. "It works great and came with a charge. It is nice having the charge gauge on it. It did not take a full charge. I may not have had it on the charger fully or may have been because it was cold. Pretty confident I have the correct charger."

Yes the battery gauges are very handy and can help remind you to maintain a good charge level during storage (to prevent damage to cells from deep discharge). They also help troubleshoot as well. What is your charger brand and charger #? Is it the original Dewalt DC9310 charger? Generics of that charger will say they replace that but pretty much none of them charge li-ion (wrong charger or a non-li-ion charger will damage the battery). And did the battery's own gauge confirm an actual increase in charge level after you removed it from charger and pressed battery's charge level gauge button again? I've sent these questions to you directly as well to help sort this out. If the battery gauge is working and showing good charge and can activate the tool, then the problem is 99% on the charger side."
