Should I charge it before the first use?
Yes. The battery arrives in a discharged condition or very low charge and should be fully charged before its first use. The reason is to protect the battery cells during transportation. In fact some battery's have a sleep mode for safety during shipping and so the new battery cells are in a discharged state? All you need to do is put the battery in your charger to begin charging to "wake" up the cells.
